Yes Virginia, there are truly nice people in the world.

I’m a cynic.  I think terrible things about most people in the world.  This is why my circle of friends is so small.  I think in a place like LA, it’s even easier to forget that there are just genuinely kind people out there.

Sit down, are you ready?

I met one today.

So, I had to run to Whole Foods to pick up eggs (more eggs, please!) and dishwasher detergent.  Gramma and Grampa B stayed back at the apartment building furniture and doing other various grandparently duties.  For some stupid reason I had left my wallet in the center console of the car when I went into the store (which I didn’t realize til it was too late.)  So I get up to the register, and have my two items rung up…

And realize.  DURRRR.  I don’t have my wallet.  Ummm, I gotta run to the car, I’ll be right backI’msorryIforgotmywalletI’llbejustamomentcanyouholdmythingsplease?

The nice lady in line in front of me, who had just paid for her things says “oh dear!  here, let me get that for you, it’s only $6, and I know what it’s like to forget the easiest things!”  Me:  “no no, you’re very kind, that’s so sweet, but my car is really just out here, and I’m sure my wallet must be in there.”  Her: “no really, please, let me, I insist.”

And she swiped her card!  I of course thanked her profusely, and we had a quick chat about the baby and when I was due and “oh a little girl, how wonderful!”   And off we walked to our respective cars.

So, Whole Foods lady, you are sweet, thank you!  You’ve restored a lot of my faith in humanity.  May your days be sunny and your vehicle get excellent mileage until it’s time to trade it in.
