Ok, so, a couple years back, we bought (or received?) this Mickey Mouse waffle iron. Now, I mean that in both senses. It really does have Mickey Mouse on it – it makes waffles in the shape of Mickey’s head. Pretty cute. It also does a bit of a mickey mouse job on them. Soggy, flaccid. VERY disappointing on a Saturday morning. (It’s made by VillaWare, FWIW.)

I’ve since decided that waffles need to take a more central role in my weekend breakfasts. Without a suitable waffle iron, this requires going out to breakfast. When I get out for breakfast, I always see other things on the menu that I want instead of waffles.

Anyone have any recommendations on a good, solid, not too large, reliable waffle iron? One that makes crispity, crunchity, golden waffles that hold up to a dousing with maple syrup? I don’t care what shape they are. I’m not even sure I care if it makes Belgian or standard waffles. I just don’t want another damn soggy waffle.

You make me sad, Mickey.
